What is a Rakhi thali ?
The festival of Raksha Bandhan highlights the sweet relationship shared between a brother and a sister. Various customs are performed, to make the festival remarkable. Along with Rakhi thread, Rakhi thali also holds a special significance on this festival. Rakhi thali is just like puja thali. Puja thalis are used during the time of worshiping the deities. These thalis are usually made of copper, brass, silver or steel. They include various shagun items such as chawal (rice), roli tika, flowers, incense sticks, diya, bell, sandalwood and so on. A typical Rakhi thali usually comes with items such as roli tikka, chawal, Rakhi thread, diya, incense sticks and sweets. However, Rakhi thali is used on Raksha Bandhan to keep Rakhi threads as well as to perform aarti of brother.

Handmade Rakhi Thali
Instead of using silver, bronze, copper or steel thali, you can make a Rakhi thali from cardboard. Cut the cardboard in any shape that you wish. It can be round, rectangle, octagon, hexagon etc. Cover it with colorful glaze papers.
Deck the edges of the thali with golden or silver zari. You can enhance the beauty of the thali by decorating it with sequins, beads and glitters.
